A product subject to meat giant Cargill's recall of 36 million pounds of ground turkey linked to a nationwide salmonella outbreak is shown. Cargill said that it is recalling fresh and frozen ground turkey products produced at the company's Springdale, Ark., plant from Feb. 20 through Aug. 2 due to possible contamination from the strain of salmonella linked to the illnesses. The packages were labeled with many different brands.    More than 30 products are affected by the recall, including products under the brand names of Honeysuckle, Giant Eagle and Fit & Active.Articles in the recall bear the establishment number "P 963," within the U.S. Department of Agriculture mark of inspection. The recall includes products with a use or freeze by date of beginning the 20 February 2011 until the end of August. Massillon Health Commissioner Terri Argent said she is surprised that the Ministry of Health had no calls about the epidemic, adding that the department receives updates from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ohio. If residents find they have bought meat affected by the recall, they should return to the store for a replacement or a refund, did she said.Meanwhile, Stark County Hunger Force Task has established an exchange program of the meat that runs through Thursday. The program allows those who have received potentially contaminated "P-963" in Turkey from a storeroom Hunger Force working for the exchange against another meat in the Pantry Community Campus, 408 Ninth St. SW in Canton . However, in some cases, Salmonella can be fatal, especially in infants, the elderly and people with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy. • Cook poultry thoroughly. Ground turkey and ground turkey dishes should always be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees as measured with a food thermometer, leftovers should be reheated to 165 degrees.
