Thousands get a taste of Orland Park food fest — Orland Park news ...
Food and entertainment lured thousands to the eighth annual Taste of Orland Park three-day festival, which concluded Sunday.
Sixteen area restaurants offered food while two stages on the Village Center grounds offered music ranging from oldies to hardcore punk. There was a kid’s day full of activities on Saturday and a car show and karaoke contest on Sunday. (Photos: Taste of Orland Park)
Village of Orland Park officials said they try to cater to all ages, and there were a variety of generations represented, including Dare Perkins, 76, and Mike Ahrendt, 74. The Palos Park residents, both veteran festival attendees, ate pizza, quesadillas chicken salad and pasta salad–and that was just the first day.
“They have a nice selection of food,” Perkins said. “If you can’t find anything you like, there’s something wrong with you. You have to come for two or maybe all three days. You can’t take it all in one day.’’
The Doonaree Pipe Band, which is based in Lockport but practices in Orland Park, made its second appearance at the festival, bringing in bagpipe players from all over.
“The crowd gave us a good reception,” said Tony Foley of Schererville, Ind., who made his first trip to the fest.
Chicagoan Zack Pentek, who performed with the group last year, said Taste of Orland offers “good food and good beer.”
Orland Park’s Kimberly Roach won the Karaoke Contest with Montgomery’s Angel Birr taking second and Tinley Park’s Kevin Suggs third.
Burrito Jalisco won the award for Best Decorated Booth for the third straight year, while Papa Joe’s finished second and Pompei was third.
