There are three parts to playing the iPhone game Ninja Fishing.  The first part is dropping the fishing line down as far as you can.  You want to try to get it as deep as you can because when you reach as far down as you can you try to get a treasure chest as well as catch better value fish and more total fish per drop of the line.

To get the line as deep as possible you need to tilt the iPhone left and right to avoid fish.   It is okay to go through the middle and/or tail, as they only grab on from their mouth.  You can tap the screen to activate the drill to plow through fish if needed.  You only have so much fuel (50 at start), though, so you still will need to avoid fish at least part of the way down.

When you first start your line is 75m long and you have no weight on it.  You can purchase upgrades for the line length, but if you are having trouble reaching the current maximum depth of your line you should purchase the weight upgrade before the next line upgrade.  Weight upgrades automatically drill you down so many feet (30m for first weight) without using fuel.  This is makes reaching lower depths easier.  However, it also leads to frustrating moments of suddenly catching a fish right when the auto drill ends.  Be sure to be ready to tap drill if needed right when the auto drill ends to help ease into the avoiding fishes as the drop speed returns to normal.
